Here are some films we have been watching and loving them.

Past Lives (2023)

Such a great film! Sometimes this type of film can seem slow and drawn out, but happily this film goes at a lovely pace. The storyline is about the choices we make in life or the circumstances that bring us there and the consequences of these choices. This film is touching and thought-provoking. We feel for all the characters and empathise with them all.

The Holdovers (2023)

The story brings you along the journey of a begrudging instructor at a New England Prep School who is forced to remain on campus over Christmas to mind a handful of students. Eventually, this instructor grows in understanding of his students, in particular one troublemaker, and the school’s head cook. The flawed characters in this film are excellent and the script is brilliant. A really good watch.

Worth noting some language and references are not edifying but at the same time, it doesn’t detract from the value that this film can bring to its viewers. It’s given an R Rating for (Some Drug Use|Language|Brief Sexual Material). See why on this Parent Guide page.

Barbie (2023)

I know, I know! Some people would say this film is superficial and exalts the stereotypical female archetype, but scratch below the surface, and you find a film that addresses something more profound than that. Overall, this film can get you thinking about the meaning of life, suffering and love. It’s not only “happiness” for pleasure's sake but finding happiness in the most unlikely of places because it has meaning. Well, it is a well-thought-out film and deserves its box-office hits!

Leo (2023)

This animation is so good and so funny, with great messages running through. The script is excellent and the characterisation of each kid and school teacher is really well done. If you just want a bit of a laugh and a bit of light entertainment, then this cartoon will do just that.

Man On The Run (2023) - Documentary

This is a true-crime documentary but you can rest assured that it’s not about murder but rather fraud. And it is really good. “Man on the Run” reveals a startling true tale of corruption and deceit that rocked Malaysia’s entire economic foundation. The narrative unfolds around Jho Low, an entrepreneur and socialite, orchestrating a plan to manipulate Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund, 1MDB. It’s gripping and tells you a story of a side of the world that I don’t know many of us would be familiar with.
