Apps that are worth it!

We can feed our mind and heart with many things: podcasts, books, music, social media, and so on. Many just come to us through our feed but what is worth it, is what we intentionally choose for ourselves. Input that will truly benefit us.

There are some apps available that help you both humanly and spiritually. While not trying to be exhaustive, we just wanted to highlighted some of the ones we have found helpful. We would also love to hear from you if you have other apps you think are worth recommending.

Apps that help you spiritually -

Hallow App

Hands down, this is one of the best apps out there to help you spiritually. What do we like about?

  • The free version is actually really good. It has quite a few options that really benefit you. The paid version unlocks a ton more at €9.99 per month (€69.99 per year).

  • It brings together great spiritual writers/speakers under one roof. People like Bishop Barron, Fr Mike Schmitz, Sr Miriam, Fr Timothy Gallagher, etc.

  • It focus on meditative prayer. A great resource to have if you practise meditative prayer or would like to begin.

This app provides you the Gospel of the day along with some words to consider and pray about in light of the Gospel. What do we like about?

  • It’s free. What’s not to like!

  • It’s really nice to be able to just click on and read the Gospel of the day and pray about an aspect of the Gospel in a concise and concrete format.

  • It has a section with common prayers, the Litanies of the Rosary, thanksgiving prayers after Mass, which is very handy to have.

Laudate App

This app is the text version #1 resource tool for any Catholic. It is jam-packed with everything you need.

  • It’s free. Given its free and packed with resources, the design, layout and connection speed is a little clunky but it’s worth overlooking this for what it truly offers - gold!

  • There is a ton available to use on this app. To name but a few:

    • Order of Mass for both Ordinary Form and Extraordinary form of the Mass

    • Catechism of the Catholic Church

    • The Bible

    • Complete library of all the modern era’s Church Documents including all the documents of Vatican II.

Catholic Mass Times App

This is a great little app and very useful when you need it most. Particularly if you are planning to travel and would like to attend Mass close by but don’t know where to go. This app shows you on a Map the location of Churches close by and times of Mass there.

that help you humanly (and spiritually) -

Audible App

If you feel you have no time to read books then Audible is ideal because it’s the perfect marriage between your everyday commute or once long journey and reading a great book.

  • Reasonably priced (around €9*) considering the benefit reached if listening to a book monthly. They also some great free downloads as part of your premium. If you cancel or pause your membership at any time you can still retain the books you have.

  • Some books are worth the listen rather than the read, simply because it is the author who is reading his own book and puts emphasis on things you wouldn’t necessarily pick up if reading it (Brene Brown’s Books is a case in point).

  • Here are some gems on Audible:

*In Ireland, we get charged by UK pricing for Audible, so depending on the price of sterling it can be more or less than €9 month.
